With the approaching end of another summer and fall on the horizon, the normal cold and flu season is sure to follow.  We have had plenty of time to practice our hand washing, sanitizing, and covering sneezes (use your elbow!) and social distancing over the last 18 months, but these practices can help keep everyone healthy as we head into another cold and flu season.

Just a reminder, if you are wearing a mask, it is important to keep it clean.  Below you will find a link to a pattern for making a few more masks out of cloth so you can add yours to the wash more often.

Thieves Oil

During the bubonic plague, there is a tale of 4 spice merchants that were out of work and money because the shipping industry fell apart.  The story goes, that they turned to thieving from plague-ridden corpses to survive. When they were finally caught and brought in front of the judges, they were asked, “How did you not fall ill, being in such close contact with the plague victims?”  In trade for their freedom, they shared their secret blend of herbs and spices that can help protect against illness.

There is a record of this Thieves story in the Royal English Archives, and although we can’t say this recipe will protect you from illness, we do believe that this blend of essential oils helps to purify the air, eliminate odors, add a pleasant aroma, while supporting your immune system, and the healthy function of your lungs and sinuses.

Make your own:

  • 2 tsp Clove Oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp Lemon Oil
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon Bark Oil
  • 3/4 tsp Eucalyptus Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Rosemary Oil

Product Spotlight: Breath Easy Bath Salts

Breath Easy Bath Salt

Our Breath Easy Bath Salt can help open your airways during cold and flu season and all year long. Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate is an important mineral for relaxing muscles and overall wellness. We add sea salt for its trace minerals and healing properties. The minerals in all of our bath salts improve relaxation and help reduce stress which can improve your immunity. Stressed immune systems make you more susceptible to illness.

We dehydrate our Epsom salt for a longer-lasting product and a longer shelf life for this bath salt. We don’t use botanical pieces in our salt, so no mess in your tub. Our skin is the largest organ in our body, why not treat it to a great mineral-rich bath!
